Hello Hubert,
Such extremes!
Frozen lakes to tropical seas!
How does your body and mind adjust to the changes.
Fantastic!
See ya,
P.S.
Were you using your Nikon D300 for the sailing photos?
Hubert en Martinique:
my body adapt aproximately, but my mind does not adapt at all, I am very confused !!!
I left my Nikon D300 in Ulaanbaatar and took only the little PanasonicTS1 waterproof with me...

Greetings Hubert
I thought your readers might like to hear an interesting report from BBC radio.
Within the next week do a google search for "Linda Pressly in Mongolia" (with quotation marks) and you will find a page on which the Linda Pressly link will play an interesting report on the severity of this year's winter in Mongolia. Very interesting.

Hubert,
Thank you for the cold weather (-40ºF.)clothing info.!!
We will use it well.
As a young man I was a bad student. Reading long lists of information has always been difficult for me.
Pictures are a MUCH BETTER way to learn and remember information.
(As an ESL teacher for adults I also use many pictures to help my students remember info. better.)
THANK YOU for taking the time to photo illistrate your cold weather clothing. In your "secret underpants" you must have been "freezing"!

Merci

I showed my ESL (English as a Second Language) class in Culver City, California your Lake Baikal crossing. They loved it. You are traveling around the world meeting many different people and, right now, I must stay here in Culver City and let the world come to me.
It's a good second choice. If I could I'd meet you somewhere out there, far from California, I would!

I love the ice photos and your adventure. I personally don't like the sound when being on the ice when the cracks are forming and the ice "sings" even if it is thick.I grew up on an island and when the ocean freezes over I used to help to put the net under the ice as a little girl. We used a special wooden plank that is attached to the net, and has this long rope that you pull and the plank "swims" under the ice and you have to watch(or listen to)the plank through the ice and hopefully it will go in a straight line to the next hole you made. :-) The plank is called an "Näthäst or ishäst"...maybe they do it similarly where you are? (google Näthäst and look at the first link, it is in Swedish but has a drawing how it works and photos of the plank)
Icehorse:
Correction..you do not attach the net to the plank, just a rope and then you pull the net with help of that rope after it has arrived to the other end with the help of the plank.(oups, my memory takes a while to surface)
|
Richard:
Thank you Icehorse.
I was wondering how they did that.
Yes, the Ice Photos are wonderful.
I spend time in the deserts of California, a very different environment than the frozen lakes in Siberia (or Sweden).

Congratulations Hubert!!
You did it! Excellent!!
How cold was it when you slept on the lake?
Do you think a "stock" 2010 Ural 2WD would be able to accomplish what yours has done??
